INDYCAR Racing The Game: Official Name Confirmed and Launch Moves to Early 2027
IndyCar and iRacing Studios have officially announced the title for the upcoming standalone IndyCar video game: INDYCAR Racing The Game. The announcement, made July 10, confirmed iRacing Studios as the developer, revealed a launch window targeting early 2027, and ended more than two decades without a standalone IndyCar game on console or PC.

The last time IndyCar had its own game was in the early 2000s, before the IRL and CART merged. Since then, the series has appeared in a handful of titles as licensed content, but nothing built specifically around open-wheel racing on the IMS oval or the streets of Long Beach. That changes with this announcement.
iRacing Studios stepping in as the developer is the part of this announcement that matters most for anyone who cares how the game will actually feel. iRacing’s physics model is the current standard for serious sim racing. The studio built its reputation on tire behavior, force feedback accuracy, and track surface fidelity, and those strengths translate directly to what an IndyCar game needs: high-speed oval drafting that punishes mistakes, downforce-dependent cornering on road courses, and suspension tuning that actually changes how the car behaves. That is the baseline this project is starting from.
The launch window shifted from the original target of late 2026 to early 2027, timed specifically ahead of the 2027 Indianapolis 500. IndyCar CMO Alex Damron described it in the announcement: “INDYCAR features the most competitive and action-packed racing, on the most challenging and diverse tracks in motorsport. We are ensuring this will be a truly special new chapter in our gaming history.”
Tony Gardner, president of iRacing, added: “This is a project our team has been passionate about for a long time. We’re bringing everything we know about authentic, immersive racing to consoles and PC, and creating an experience worthy of the IndyCar name.”
The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC through Steam. One detail worth noting: IndyCar mentioned that more information will be shared at indycargame.com, which suggests the feature list and pre-order details are still being staged for future announcements.
What the announcement does not include yet is anything on gameplay modes, car count, driver roster depth, or how the game handles online multiplayer. The “early 2027” window is still broad enough that IndyCar could fill the gap with dev diaries, trailer drops, and a proper pre-order campaign before the end of 2026.
For an audience that has waited 20-plus years for a game actually designed around IndyCar, the combination of iRacing Studios as the developer and an Indy 500-adjacent launch window is exactly what you would want to hear first. The question now is what the full feature reveal looks like when it comes.
